Internship – Environmental science/ ecotoxicology

Intern – Research Assistant

Objectives :

Sat within the Trusted Ingredient team of our Global Innovation & Development R&D function, this internship will play a unique & essential role. Its purpose is to inform thought-leadership on how, as a society, we provide essential modern healthcare solutions that can support both a healthy planet and provide better everyday health with humanity. The core scope of this role will be to support Haleon and the Trusted Ingredient team in developing specific technical and scientific knowledge in ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry to support achieving this goal. As a priority this speaks to our use of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients in consumer products, but it will also look at excipient (non-active) ingredients across our portfolio. Additionally, the role will help to identify opportunities for ‘thought-leadership’ in this area, including work to identify knowledge gaps and to begin building knowledge and scientific solutions in-line with these.

Responsibilities :

The internship will involve:

• Work on projects to address real-world scientific challenges concerning the environmental fate and effects of key ingredients
• Supporting in the identification of key knowledge gaps in environmental exposure and fate of pharmaceuticals and other ingredients
• Identifying how these gaps might be addressed
• Environmental exposure and fate modelling of key ingredients
• Working towards solutions to current environmental concerns via; monitoring and enhancing removal of micropollutants from WWTP process; environmental exposure modelling and validation with measured data; GREENER chemicals and alternatives; redesign of key ingredients to enhance biodegradation; in silico and in vitro approaches to assess alternatives
• Assessing the potential benefits of solutions through modelling approaches
• Communicating and formulating these ideas in a commercial context
